Set Back or Blessing in Disguise?

Taysom Hill Truwear

Michael Jordan said, " Always turn a negative situation into a positive situation." Your attitude can completely change an outcome. Thinking positively, not letting yourself get discouraged and focusing on the good can sometimes be easier said than done. And Truwear understands that every life ebbs and flows through successes and setbacks, but continuing to persist towards your goals will accomplish far more than dwelling on your failures.

There is a Chinese story of an old farmer who had an old horse for tilling his fields. One day the horse escaped into the hills and, when all the farmer's neighbors sympathized with the old man over his bad luck, the farmer replied, 'Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?'

A week later the horse returned with a herd of wild horses from the hills and this time the neighbors congratulated the farmer on his good luck. His reply was, 'Good luck? Bad luck? Who knows?'

Then, when the farmer's son was attempted to tame one of the wild horses, he fell off its back and broke his leg. Everyone thought this very bad luck. Not the farmer, whose only reaction was, 'Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?'

Some weeks later the army marched into the village and conscripted every able-bodied youth they found there. When they saw the farmer's son with his broken leg they let him off.

Sometimes the very setbacks that we think might hold us back are the gateways to incredible discoveries. Perfection is not achieved instantaneously, but through hard work, constant vigilance, and refined diligence. So while we may have a moment where we think we cannot continue, by merely doing so, we may find great achievement.  Bridging the divide between struggle and success can be a demanding maxim, but the results will be more than worth the strife.
